We can ensure that university workers have job security by working together to bring about change via the bargaining process, where the use of insecure work can be limited. If you haven’t already joined a bargaining campaign and volunteered to assist, please do so today. Winning this battle will require those who have ongoing employment to support and campaign for better working conditions for those who do not.

We can lobby the Federal Government to ensure greater transparency of the use of insecure work in the sector (currently it is largely hidden by the lack of a requirement to accurately report on particularly casual work, to amend the Fair Work Act to ensure that the current casual conversion provisions which have been an abject failure in universities ensure a genuine path to security of employment, and we can join other unions and workers across the country who are campaigning for an end to secure work.
