We hope you’ve had a restorative break over the new year.

Enterprise agreement

We are happy to be enjoying some of the benefits of the new agreement with pay rises coming through, new holidays and 16 of the new roles for casual staff advertised already. More colleagues with secure continuing jobs is what we want to see. It is your collective power exercised last year that has brought us these improvements.

Invasion Day is on Friday. If you want to use the new right to take a different public holiday instead, all you need do is arrange it with your manager.

Let’s also practice our right to disconnect! I’ve now turned off email notifications on my phone so I only have them on my work computer. The outlook app also has options to turn off notifications in the evenings and weekends. Technology changes, like email notifications, are making jobs more stressful than they used to be, so let’s do something about it.

We're currently planning how to struggle for safe workloads. If you’d like to be involved in that work, please let us know by filling in this form.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members

The University is in the process of setting up the Indigenous Australian Workforce Steering Committee. The NTEU have a representative on that committee. If you are interested in being the NTEU rep please get in touch with Tobias or Michael ([email protected], [email protected]).

Take action to protect WorkCover

The state government has proposed changing WorkCover to remove coverage for mental injuries caused by stress or burnout. As these are the most prevalent injuries in our industry we need to sign the petition to tell the Allan Government that we need WorkCover to protect our psychosocial wellbeing in the workplace.
