ACU to pay casual staff for September 22

ACU senior management wrote to all ACU staff and students to confirm the impact of the September 22 public holiday on ACU's operations that day and to advise that all "sessional and casual academic staff who are scheduled to work on 22 September will receive their scheduled payments if their work is cancelled due to the public holiday".  This announcement follows a request from Dr Leah Kaufmann (NTEU ACU Branch president) to ACU Vice-Chancellor Professor Zlatko on September 12. Specifically, she requested that “casual and sessional staff who are affected be paid in full regardless of the approach ACU adopts. The public holiday falls in teaching week 9 of the Semester 2. For many of our insecurely employed staff, the loss of a full day of pay has a substantial impact".

Dr Kaufmann has received confirmation that “will also pay ACU Professional Casual Staff whose usual working day is Thursday as well”.  The NTEU welcomes the decision of ACU to pay all casual and sessional staff who would otherwise lose work on September 22 and calls on other universities make the same undertaking.
