Meet your NTEU Monash bargaining team

Negotiations for a new Monash Enterprise Agreement are about to begin. Meet the NTEU Monash bargaining team who will be representing you at the table.

Michelle Giovas
Our lead negotiator, Michelle Giovas is a professional staff member working in the Buildings and Property Division as a Risk and Compliance Officer. She has worked at Monash for many years, and is a proud union member and passionate Health and Safety Representative. Michelle is also our NTEU Monash Branch Vice President (Professional) and believes this round of negotiations is crucial for wage growth, especially as so many of us are feeling the cost of living pressures. Michelle is set on tackling workload pressures, job insecurity and improving flexible work arrangements.

Dr. Scott Robinson
Scott is a casually employed academic in the Faculty of Arts, where has taught in the Department of Philosophy since 2017. Alongside many others, Scott has been instrumental in organising the Monash Casuals Network and leading our wage theft campaign for paid student consultations. Scott is committed to ensuring that casual staff at Monash are paid for all hours worked, as well as advocating for better job security and conversion rights for insecurely employed professional and academic staff. Scott believes this round of negotiations is a chance to articulate and achieve our vision for a better university.

Dr. Ben Eltham
Ben is currently Branch President of our NTEU Monash Branch -- a role he has occupied with much passion since 2019. He is currently a lecturer in the Faculty of Arts where he teaches a large Masters unit in the School of Media, Film and Journalism. Ben also works as a journalist and writer, commenting on Australian politics, current affairs and culture. Coming from a family of teachers, he is passionate about public education and safeguarding our institutions against corporate managerialism.

Dr. Alice de Jonge
Alice is an academic in the Monash Business School where she has worked for more than 30 years. In her time at Monash University, she has seen many things improve, while others -- wages, job security, safe workloads -- have slowly deteriorated. Also coming from a family of teachers, from a young age, the importance and value of unionism and protections against workplace exploitation were absorbed by osmosis. This round of negotiations, she is determined to repair the damage.
