Make your experience count: submissions open for national inquiry into university governance

3 February 2025

Your sector needs you!

Submissions are being invited for the upcoming government inquiry into university governance, led by Tony Sheldon, which was recently announced in January.

If you've got a story to tell or experience to relate from your workplace, this is your chance to do your bit for higher education and submit your feedback.

You don't need to say much, but it all counts!

This inquiry is the result of years of research and advocacy, lobbying and campaigning by the National Tertiary Education Union and its members; further validation and vindication of the issues and arguments we raised in highlighting a broken system beset by cronyism and mismanagement and calling for better universities.

Let's press home this victory and turn it into lasting change!

Here's more from NTEU National President Alison Barnes.

University governance is under the microscope after NTEU members’ pressure won a newly established parliamentary inquiry.

This significant victory is a crucial chance for staff to help fix the broken governance model that has allowed university leaders to act with impunity.

Senior executives, hundreds of whom earn more than their state premiers, will be making their own submissions. Judging by some of the reactions in the media already, it’s almost certain they will continue to keep their heads in the sand.

There are hundreds of thousands of us. Let’s make it clear what we think about how our universities are run.

Make a submission to save public universities

Contributions do not need to be pages long, they can be short and to the point. You can choose whether you’d like your name attached or to remain anonymous.

Let’s keep going—because together, we’re unstoppable.

Alison Barnes,

NTEU National President
